Food Chain and Food Web

All living things need food to live.

Green plants can make their own food but animals cannot make their own food.

Animals can be grouped into three groups based on the types of food they eat.

1. herbivores- animals that eat plants only.
2. carnivores- animals that eat meat only.
3. omnivores- animals that eat both plants and other animals.

Basic Needs

All living things have basic needs to stay alive.

Basic needs of humans and animals:

1. Food
2. Water
3. Air
4. Shelter

Humans and animals need food for:

1. Growth and to stay healthy
2. Energy to carry out many kinds of activities
3. Producing heat to keep their bodies warm.

Humans and animals need water to:

1. Maintain their body temperatures
2. Transport nutrients through their bodies
3. Carry waste products out of their bodies

Humans and animals need air for breathing.

Humans and animals need shelter to protect them from danger, sun and rain.
